In the past 30 years, which country developed in the fastest speed? We must say it's China. But why China could make the economy increase in such a magical speed?Besides the Reforming and Opening Policies,I think we should also attribute the success to the demographic dividend. Demographic dividend means at a period the number of workers in a country come to its peak;this period always lasts for 30-50 years in each country. Economists would never forget how fast the Japan develop after the WWII:by the end of 1970s,Japan has become the second-largest economy.Of course, the government of the USA was running the Marshall Plan to support the development of Japan. But there is another important reason of it we could not ignore, that's also demographic dividend
As the picture showed above, the demographic dividend period of Japan started from around 1945,and ended around 1970s. That corresponded with the high-speed developing period of Japan. And,let's see the development of China. From 1978 to 2014,China kept flying, which was so similar to Japan. However,Japan finally started its aging of population at the mid of 1980s. And its developing speed slowed down from then on, and in 1990s, the economy even decreases.I believe that was definitely related to the aging of population. As for China, just like the second graph showed, the percent of 60+ages persons will hit 15% in 2010s, which means the aging of populatiton will come to China these years. The government of China must do something,or the speed of development will slow down.
